Project 2

Alberta Health Services – Shaganappi Community Health Centre (CHC)

Over the course of design, Shaganappi CHC’s service offering, location, and types of clients led to an overall concept that incorporates research findings that indicated:

  • the use of blues and greens;

  • imagery with a higher degree of realism and “associative” aspects — images that allow children to recall things that relate to their own lives;

  • the incorporation of neutral, natural colors tied to themes of nature aid in reducing stress and anxiety of younger children and seniors.

The use of acoustical, cloud-shaped dropped ceilings and the tops of trees furthered the concept of the space while adding to the functional attributes of the design.

Acorn Design further carried the conceptual design into a series of Environmental Graphic Design wall elements of animals and items from nature that occur within the catchment area of the Shaganappi CHC and beyond to the west. These graphics, stylized photographs on modular wall panels, appear throughout the clinic to provide positive distractions while also serving as wall protection in key areas of concern.
