Project 1

Alberta Health Services – IT Department Tenant Improvements

Over a series of years, three project areas were built-out by Remington Development Corporation at Quarry Park to increase and consolidate AHS’s in-house IT services to one area within Calgary.

Kirsten Janes, as the interior designer of the first phase that consolidated 750 staff into approximately 50,000 sq.ft. of turn-key tenant space, worked with MTA through Acorn Design to carry out the two most recent projects for further expansion. The QP2 and QCA phases of the project added an additional 41,000 sq.ft. of office and support spaces. The highly technical space contains multiple types of power redundancy for the call centre to provide continuous IT support to AHS staff/medical staff, including in an emergency situation such as occurred during the 2013 Calgary flood.

Services pertaining to the Design and Construction scopes of work included:

  • coordination with the: Prime Consultant; mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers; acoustical engineer; and sound masking vendor;

  • provision of design and drafting for all architectural and interior design aspects of the project;

  • development of Environmental Graphic Design details for use on interior glazing based on the “Tetris-like” forms used throughout the finishes;

  • construction contract administration services from award of tender through to final deficiency reviews.

Services pertaining to the FF&E scope of work included:

  • selection, specification, and administration of the procurement of all FF&E items (all new), serving as a member of the Client’s move team;

  • frequent meetings with FF&E vendors to finalize specifications and refine quotes;

  • collection, review and approval of quotes, orders, submittals and installation through to deficiency reviews;

  • manufacturing defects were found during the deficiency review that were resolved through Acorn Design working with the Vendor at all levels from delivery team to management as well as manufacturer representatives.
